triple d

other things:

moby-dick threw me into a existential crisis for about 2 weeks in march. lots of crying and journaling and feeling great about myself. currently on a break from books for another few weeks and will start the bell jar.

i've taken on ironing as my new domestic duty for 2015.

chelsea market cookbook is the best cookbook i've bought in years.

march marked the start of my 12th business cycle at the store. yow

i am decidedly not the emoticon type.

oh, and it's pie season, currently practicing for cherry ($6/lb) with apple ($1.98/lb). working on a different lattice technique this year, keep you posted.

my name is stegosaurus

i have been casually looking for furniture since we are moving into a house with more rooms. i found the rug of my dreams. unfortunately it was over $200k. i bet it's exquisite in person. i live for 1st dibs.
em and jse sure had fun building fires this winter.
this the day em wanted to break open her piggy bank and give her money to a boy who needed surgery. she did indeed break it open, a 1950s vintage tiffany & co ceramic hippo. this picture was taken after we were leaving his party. the innocence and generosity were touching.
very into dinosaurs and dinosaur songs. her favorite is the stegosaurus, until i say that my favorite one is the triceratops.

but her face

visiting my dad in san antonio
i always see this girl in crewcuts catalogs and her facial expressions have always bothered me. i realized that it's because i feel that asians are naturally and deliberately stoic and this child chooses not to be. i feel like she's showing our cards. i also think my kid is cuter but would only model over my dead body.
the house as of who knows when in the last two months.
framing in back of house is done (by the time you see this the plumbing, shower bases and dry wall are up also. insulation and electricity next.
 this all became one room.
restroom, pantry, master bedroom, closet (sub floors are all in currently but let's be honest, still not much to see...or imagine)
drawbridge because of the nonstop rain the last several months
em really loves putting on my "nake up". i do love that creamy, poreless skin.
she and evan eleven are closer than ever, laughing hysterically and running around all day long.
a hermes scarf exhibit i did for an organization for which i volunteer. the only american hermes artist lives in waco, and i know a lot of people who have them, so i borrowed them all and put them up.

a cookie butter marathon almost ended me. i would flip this photo but i just took an ambien and don't have the willpower to make it right. if i get the urge to eat it now (it's like emulsified cinnamon cookies), i can buy a jar, take out a spoonful and then drop it off at john john's, who has the metabolism of a gazelle.
if you didn't know what the easter bunny does post his big day, he might do this. stay tethered to a chair on the floor of someone's dining room.

shining happy peepers

em is becoming a bit more expressive these days, maybe she is just more in control of her face muscles.

closed eye teeth smile
 the mischievous ingenue
no idea but she froze this way for several seconds
 the pre-diabetic grin

the oma and the moma

well it's been so long since i've posted. most of it is that i got a new phone and i haven't even set up my voicemail on it, let alone the desktop software. but at this moment, i've opened a bag of jelly belly buttered popcorn jelly beans and away we go.

we've been going to the zoo a lot. she spends at least 20 minutes on this horse every time, pretending that he's mouse, pretending that she's running away from a bear, giving lessons to whoever will listen about how to make a horse go and stop. here she is with betty, who was nice enough to come with us one day.
i was helping a customer find a hat for the kentucky derby. i liked this one with the tulle border.
jse is officially allergic to everything that grows on earth. in addition to his many pollen allergies, he has food allergies. he has now resorted to shakes on days when i don't have time to prepare food that is milk, corn, wheat, coconut, rice, soy and egg free.
i dunno, a philosophical contrast between death and birth.
i singed my hairline, eyebrows and eyelashes trying to light the grill. jse said my eyelashes now look like an elderly persons. my skin got a bit traumatized too, luckily i had a sample of a post laser peel cream and it healed me up overnight.
i was making this. brined pork chops, creamed leeks, stewed apples
em is super into church on wednesdays and trapping animals and keeping them as pets. this ladybug, named "beauty", died after 36 hours. i did feel a twinge of guilt until we found out that their average lifespan is 6 weeks.
a pretty wingchair from one of my favorite furniture companies, bddw.
i love papa and mama chairs, and the ones they produce are gorgeous. sadly this quirky modern set will set you back over $30k.
