winnie

 winnie died today. the best we know, she ate something (probably in large quantity) while catching cows for jeremy a couple of weeks ago. she seemed to be better for a while and then nosedived this past weekend. 

the picture below is from when she first came to live with me from jeremy's, in 2010. a couple of years before that, winnie came into jeremy's life, badly abused and neglected. for the first year, she crawled around on her belly, too afraid of everything and everyone. she has had a good life since then, never asking for very much of anything, just some food, water and a pat on the head every now and again. winnie was jeremy's fastest cow dog.

jeremy named her winnie because he said she was winsome. she was EM's favorite, "wimmie" was one of her first words. we are thankful that we got to have her gentle and happy presence for a while. rip.

the walking dud

jeremy, yd and i really like a show called the walking dead. i downloaded an app the show created called "dead yourself", where you can see what you would look like if you were a zombie. here are our results.

this is a picture of us at sea world, my dad took the picture. i think we were leaving and i wanted to buy food to feed the seals and my dad said no. i guess that's why my face looks like that. i think em's nose will look like that when she is about 7. isn't it amazing how much ruth looks like a modern hipster? white frame glasses, pleated shorts, peter pan collar, bangs above eyebrows. paul looks like a ____. i can't even explain, maybe a kid fresh off the boat from mongolia who was on a tour of the united states from west to east with his host family. he was surprised to arrive in the US and find that his host family looked kind of like him. the ill fitting neckline of his t shirt is awesome and i just wish we could see his feet, probably tube socks and some off brand of velcro-ed sneakers.

petits four dozen

i am making petits fours for the first time for a friend's baby shower in a few weeks. i am intimidated by the whole thing to the point where i will probably do a practice run beforehand. and while i am up for the challenge of making the cakes themselves, i am not about to take the time to learn how to pipe frosting into rosettes, letters and other decorations. so i looked online to see what sort of novelty cake toppers could be purchased, and it was interesting.

hobby lobby group

the big problem with hobby lobby is not the wicker or puff paint or fake flowers.

it's that nobody works there.

a huge selection of ugly painted ceramics. but no one working.

 14,000 types of tissue paper. but no employees.

 wind chimes and tin stars. but quiet as a mouse.

all i wanted was a balloon inflater, and when i opened it, it looked like this

i'm sure there won't be anyone in the returns department to receive my damaged good.
