then and now

rise up and walk

EM does not walk on purpose, otherwise, she is still insistent on holding someone's hand. but sometimes she forgets (like when she's watching octonauts or fox news) and she will take several steps without even realizing.

lucky number 34

bg, lb and hb came to the shop to sing happy birthday...
and then jeremy cooked dinner, waldorf salad and stuffed chicken.
and then a great girls weekend at rough creek lodge
laying out, getting facials, eating great food, antiquing, laughing hysterically at inappropriate jokes...

how she celebrated

EM had a progressive birthday party. first she met a few friends for breakfast at chick-fil-a.

after a pleasant breakfast, lela and EM decided to cry simultaneously. maybe a infant to toddler life crisis.
then we took cupcakes from "what about cupcakes" to share at miss pattie's.

finally, on monday, we had a family birthday party. unfortunately aunt ruthie couldn't make it but everyone else was there.

korean food
 harabuji
kristine and evan

 strawberry cake
 blowing out candles
evan was a little jealous so we sang happy birthday to him too.
 and then hallie too.

loves it!
a special birthday gift from rah rah and pops, her very own rocking chair.

in new york...

there was swinging...
swimming...
walking...
riding...
playing...
eating...
more eating...
sleeping...
 and more playing...
thanks for having us, emo!
during em's naps, i went to the met to check out the elsa schiaparelli-miuccia prada installation, took a pilates lesson, went makeup shopping, read and checked out some shops and galleries around ruth's neighborhood in brooklyn. the heat was stifling, so many of these pictures are of em in a swimsuit or swim diaper at a close by water park or pop up pool. we stuck to her nap schedule and central time zone and that made for a happy, playful and sweet kid! i was reticent to travel with her, on a plane, by myself, but she did great.

lost at sea

somewhere between austin and new york, we lost jelly.

here are the two in happy times...
so while strolling around in brooklyn, we found em a new friend, a raccoon.
clearly she has not had any issues bonding.
in fact if you ask her where jelly is, she will now look for the new raccoon.
i guess love is fleeting for this one year old.
