a few notes, prior to takeoff

a very fun, but bittersweet weekend...

dr kim prayed over his own congregation for the last time (congratulations on 35 years in ministry, daddy)...
after the service, party time!
paul and kristine moved, officially...
evan slept through the whole thing and has developed a peculiar behavior with his pinkies...
a close upobviously he is growing out of more than his clothes. good eater, that evan.dad coped with all the change by playing golf...
and pretending like he was going backpacking...
(he wanted you to have a side view)

off to maine tomorrow, see you next week!

goats and boats

a lot going on next week...

my dad is officially retiring after working for nearly 60 years. i'll be in dallas for his last service. here is the little muffin over christmas.

monday
paul and kristine are moving from dallas and returning to austin. after long deliberations, they have decided to take evan along with them. here he is after he heard the news. he is also celebrating the south korean goal against uruguay.

tuesday
i am leaving for a backpacking trip to maine with marcy! we are hiking part of the appalachian trail, in and near grafton notch state park. here is a picture of our view from when we backpacked last in colorado.

thursday
jse is flying to boston to help his friend sail a boat from boston to bar harbor, maine. we will all meet up the following monday and return to home sweet home on tuesday. i guess this is his interpretation of the naked cowboy.

hard knock life

yesterday, paul and kristine moved a load of boxes to austin, so en route, they dropped off this little guy to stay with me for the day. for the first half, we were at home (i did take him on a walk and two people commented that i "sure did pick a hot day to take my baby for a walk") and we spent the second half at the shop. i had no idea how much evan loves fabric, shoes and fashion in general! he must get it from me, amazing! he's so precocious.

here is evan deciding between triple milled linen burlap and italian dip dyed silk charmeuse. tough call, e.
he loves tocca fragrances. he didn't know if the blood orange bottom note of cleopatra moved him more than the top notes of italian bergamot in stella. both reminded him of old world movie stars and his travels to florence so he was in a quandary.
evan's favorite season of the year, just like his mommy. the time of year when matt bernson sandals come out. which to go with, the nail head studded white asterix or gisele bundchen's favorite, the love sandal in black?

lots of decisions. that's what growing up is about, evan, making choices.

son of a beach

well, i don't mean to follow up the post of my sweet nephew with this one, but it's so hilarious.

it's a english lesson taught by a korean teacher on english swear words.

my personal denim chronology

there are a few pairs of jeans that i have loved in my life.

198? two pairs of jeans that i insisted on wearing every day. pretty sure one pair were "lee". worked my way through at least two sets of knee patches.
1990 gap straight leg, button fly. medium indigo with light cross hatching.
1997 levis 501s cut into shorts, would last me through 2001.
*the 7 year long denim drought, i liked but didn't love jeans by diesel and blue cult*
2004 paper denim & cloth 2mod01 (my first encounter with dual ring spun denim. almost clapped when i first saw them. pitch perfect whiskering. the first pair of jeans i had a seriously hard time parting with). 1 year
2006 j brand 905 stovepipe jean. ink
2007 j brand 1350 kat wide leg jeans. indigo and azure (two pair in azure. they're japanese denim. you know, i know.)
2008 habitual virtuoso trouser. eventide
2009 apc petit standard raw denim jean
2008-2010 levi's capital e swank boot cut jeans. huntington blue, and two other colorways i don't remember, sadly.

as it were, every one of these jeans is discontinued. we've moved on to bigger and better things, i guess. but i am now in a conundrum, as all of my jeans are either college frat boy tattered or don't fit anymore. so i've been trying to wear skirts, dresses, seersucker and chinos, but jeans make me feel at home.

here's to that next pair of perfect jeans, somewhere out there. we'll find each other...
